Back to Executive Committee
Francisco Lamus Lemus
I am a Medical doctor with specialty in pediatrics, a master in public health and a master in science in applied development. My carreer has evolved in diverse experiences in primary health pediatric practice, and in the identification, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of primary health projects in different cities of Colombia. During nine years I have contributed with WHO´s "Health Promoting School Initiative" in nine municipalities of the Sabana de Bogotá, where medical students had there family and community health rotations, while developing participatory action research projects together with different school community representatives interested in improving the health conditions of the school members and there families.
I am an Associate Professor in public health, family and community medicine at the School of Medicine, Universidad de La Sabana in Bogotá. Among my duties I have the leadership role of the research group: "Medicina de Familia y Salud de la Población" a group that among other achievements, has taken many of the undergraduate participatory action research projects in school communities to different levels of analysis and application on decision making processes in instituions and territorial authorities at different levels. Currently some of the major initiatives that are being developed by the Area of Public Health, Family and Community Health are the dcvelopment of continuous education strategies for health personnel of the health workforce of Bogotá, in the Essential Functions of Public Health, and at the same time supporting the health care policies of the city of Bogotá, by improving the competencies of the Primary Health and the Maternal and Child Health Care workforce of most of the health institutions of Bogotá. Our group is also involved in a collaborative effort that links nine different Universities around the country, in the purpose of contributing to return citizen rights, health and quality of life to population groups displaced by the Colombian endemic rural violence, through a family and community health approach.
The mision of the team of people to which I belong is to contribute to improve the health of the individuals, families and communities, by contributing to build social capital while working in education and health, two of the major assets that allow a society to benefit from its major wealth, its people (human capital).
