INTRODUCTION
|
Adapting Health Services and Health Professions Education to Local Needs: Partnerships, Priorities and Passions is the theme chosen for the Network: Towards Unity for Health 2008 conference.

The goal of the Conference is to analyse and discuss how health systems, services and health professions education adapt and readapt to the local needs of populations according to the historical, political and cultural influences they receive over time. Participants will approach the Conference topic from their own experiences and practices. Community site visits to different initiatives, taking place in the city-region of Bogotá-Cundinamarca, will show how health services, health education institutions and communities are adapting to rapidly changing social conditions of the existing diverse population groups.
After the Conference participants have the chance to attend one of the following two Post-Conference Excursions: The first option is to visit the Arhuaco native groups at the village of Nabusímake in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. During this 3 day trip participants will have the chance to receive the message from the Arhuaco about their ecologically sustainable perspective of health, integrated to their traditional cultural practices and their effort to link it to the national health system organisation.
The second option is to visit the village of Agua de Dios during a 1 day trip, where participants will have the chance to experience how the country has evolved overtime in its socially organised response to patients with Hansen disease.
We look forward to welcoming you in Chía-Bogotá and at one of the Post-Conference Excursions to Nabusímake or Agua de Dios.
