INTRODUCTION
|
Achieving Quality in Health Care: Challenges for Education, Research and Service Delivery is the theme chosen for the Network: Towards Unity for Health 2009 Conference in Amman, Jordan.
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, a young country dense with history, a well traveled bridge between sea and desert, East and West. It is in the center of the Middle East bordered by Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Palestinian Territories and Israel. With its limited resources, Jordan faced several waves of refugees' influxes following several wars over the past four or more decades. The health and education systems in Jordan are among the best in the region and represent valuable investments. They undergo continuous reforms to keep them up to the highest standards. Quality assurance is inextricably linked to this goal.
The aim of the Conference is to present, analyse and discuss how health systems and services, health professions education and research adapt and readapt to the local needs of populations according to the social, political and cultural influences they receive over time, and how they try to meet international standards. Participants will approach the Conference topic from their own experiences and practices and receive inputs from experts and peers. Community site visits to different initiatives, taking place in the city of Amman and its surroundings, will show how health services, health education institutions and communities are adapting to rapidly changing social conditions in diverse population groups.
The Post-Conference Excursion will take you to Mu’tah University in the south part of Jordan, which features strong community-oriented programmes.
