This Conference takes place in Gauteng, South Africa, from September 12-16. We are jointly organizing the conference with SAAHE (South African Association of Health Educationalists) and University of Pretoria.

You can regsiter on the website Bambanani and also find information concerning the conference, the fees, the program, accommodation, the visa requirements and other practical information. Please note that you can register as ‘individual’ (staff members, other individuals, …) or as a ‘student’. Announcement of the first winner of the International Social Accountability Award

OTTAWA – AFMC announced that the Training for Health Equity Network (THEnet) is the very first recipient of the AFMC – Charles Boelen International Social Accountability Award. The Training for Health Equity Network (THEnet) is a global movement of medical schools committed to increasing the impact of academic institutions on health and the development of equitable health care systems, notably by focussing the training of health professionals on improved health equity. It is a learning community where institutions and individuals work to develop a global view of health challenges and try to meet local and national health priorities.

THEnet is made up of faculties in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas and Australia that are committed to pioneering innovative approaches to facilitate access to care in disadvantaged communities. It helped develop an evaluation framework to assess the social accountability of medical schools.

“It is an honour to present this award to Dr. André-Jacques Neusy and Ms. Bjorg Palsdottir, the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, respectively, of THEnet,” noted Dr. Geneviève Moineau, President & CEO of AFMC. “The solid international reputation they have built over the years, as well as their positive impact on the communities they serve and their desire to promote social justice and equity truly deserve to be recognized and celebrated by the academic community.”

Call for proposals: Emerging challenges and solutions on faculty development in Asia and Pacific Region

“Call for proposal” from the Asia-Pacific Action Alliance on Human Resources for Health – AAAH.

AAAH is a regional partnership mechanism established in response to the international recognition of the need for global and regional action strengthen country health workforce planning and action. The “Call for proposal” is for those persons who are interested to submit for the AAAH intersession.

Proposal must be submitted electronically (online) by the closing date to: [email protected]?subject=Call%20for%20proposal%20%3A%20Emerging%20challenges%20and%20solutions%20on%20faculty%20development%20in%20Asia%20and%20Pacific%20Region">[email protected].

WHO publishes systematic review of eLearning in health professional education

WHO : “ eLearning for undergraduate health professional education - a systematic review informing a radical transformation of health workforce development.” The World Health Organization (WHO) Department of Health Workforce in collaboration with the Department of Knowledge, Ethics and Research commissioned the Global eHealth Unit (GeHU) at Imperial College London to conduct a systematic review of the scientific literature to evaluate the effectiveness of eLearning for undergraduate health professional education.

The review is based on a rigorous search, analysis and presentation of data that provides decision-makers with an up-to-date picture of current knowledge on eLearning for undergraduate professional education. It responds to a need at the country level for evidence to inform and guide health professional education as an important vehicle in preparing health professionals to be ‘fit-for-purpose’.

At a global level, it will assist in the implementation of the WHO’s global human resources for health strategy by providing the best evidence of how and where eLearning can best be used in country settings. The report also provides a foundation for the development of future WHO guidelines for pre-service training and the direction for future research.

Building Health Workforce Capacity Through Community-based Health Professional Education: Workshop Summary

NEW: Call for Proposals Stella Mini-Grant 2014

Stella D'hondt was born on September 9, 2011, surrounded by highly trained health care workers, in the best health care facilities possible. Unfortunate, not every child comes into this world in the same circumstances, with every chance on a healthy and prosperous life. The Stella Mini-Grant came to life, by numerous donations from people who wanted to celebrate Stella’s birth in an alternative way: contribute to community-oriented health care, based on equity.

We are pleased to announce this call for proposals for a Stella mini-grant 2014.

The Stella Mini-Grant is a grant to finance a small-scale community project, aiming to improve equitable health care. The goal of The Network: TUFH is to foster equitable community-orientated health service, education, research and policy. Therefore, the focus of the project can be one of these four areas. The grant comes in three categories: 100-500€; 500-1000€ and 1000-1500€.

A selection committee selects the grant winners from the applicants. The winning project proposals will be announced at the conference of The Network: TUFH in Fortaleza and through the website by the end of November 2014.
